Antiwrinkle treatment
Antiwrinkle treatments use botulinum toxin A to relax muscles and reduce wrinkle formation. Most commonly; this treatment is provided for the forehead, frown lines (11 lines), and crows feet (around the eyes). Other applications include the reduction of gummy smiles, down turned smiles, smokers lines around the mouth, and chin dimples.
Botulinum toxin can also be used for functional reasons including the reduction of tooth grinding, clenching, and tension headaches. Additionally this treatment can be useful for patients who sweat excessively (hyperhydrosis) in their underarm area.
A common use of antiwrinkle injections can be to increase the amount of upper lip that is shown by reducing the muscular contraction of the muscles downturning the lips. This is referred to as a 'lip flip' and is a good alternative to lip filler for certain patients whilst also providing a natural result.
Filler treatment
Injection of Dermal fillers aims to smooth out facial folds and wrinkles, add volume to tissues that are lacking or where it may have been lost through the ageing process, and helps ot contour facial features. Most dermal fillers that are used are based on hyaluoronic acid (a naturally occuring molecule in the body) and may also contain lidocaine (a loal anaesthetic) to help with pain control.
Some of the applications include:
Lips
Nasolabial folds - The folds forming between the nose and mouth)
Marrionette lines - The folds between the lips and the chin)
Temples - Side of the forehead
Cheeks and cheek bones
Jawline
Chin
Tear troughs - The hallow under the eye
Other fine lines and wrinkles including the smokers lines around the lips
Commonly, multiple of these areas need to be treated to address one complaint, so a face to face consultation is required prior to treatment in order to formulate an appropriate treatment plan.
The effects of dermal filler last up to 1 year, but in some patients may last longer. Swelling and bruising are common and usually subside within 2 weeks. The long term results are usually not visable for 14 days, and at this point, a review appointment should be booked to check your results, and do minor adjustments if needed. Hyaluronic acid dermal filler is reversible and can be dissolved using a reversal agent if the desired effect is not achieved, or other complications occur.
